No one does ‘big metal sexy’ when it comes to the SUV game quite like Porsche . The new Cayenne GTS and GTS Coupé dropped during the week and let’s just say that the dad car world out there, just became that much more enriched.

Out with the old, in with the new

Porsche have given the V6 Biturbo the boot, making way for a V8 Biturbo, producing an adequately healthy power rating of 338kW (14 kW/20Nm more than the previous model). Both models move the 2.1 tons of luxury SUV from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and with the Sport Chrono package, achieve a top speed of 270km/h.

The age-old maxim of a ‘’bigger engine needs to do less work and therefore archives greater fuel efficiency’’ applies. The fuel efficiency is rated at 11.2l/100km, which compared to the previous model of 11.5/100km.

But what is refreshing in this day and age is to note that Porsche still flies the flag high in that SUVs can embody the brands sporty DNA whilst balancing load potential required with a SUV. Keeping with the sporty theme, both models are now 20mm lower with Dynamic Damper Control and torque vectoring comes as standard. There are options to include air suspension as well.

It’s all in the details

The interior is adorned in all the right go-faster bits. Alcantara and double stitching in Carmine red or Crayon line the edges of surfaces. GTS logos engraved into the seats finish off the look. Accompanying the interior party tricks are blacked out GTS accents throughout as well as 21-inch RS Spyder Design wheels and that ‘robocop’ styled lightbar at the rear which has become synonymous with Porsche of recent time.

Despite the Coupes initial favour splitting impressions, we feel that with the latest iteration, more of those divided hearts are going to be drawn closer. Join the conversation if you disagree. And if you can’t agree on that you can certainly agree that Porsche SUV sales are critical for the sustainablity of the brand in making profits and the latest iteration looks to be everybit the fitting successor.

The new Porsche Cayenne GTS models are available from the beginning of July.
