The Mercedes Benz E Class Coupe and Cabriolet got a reworking in the looks department and merc have always had the unique knack for kicking to the curb the notion that ‘bigger can’t be sexy’. If you’re like me who has a soft spot for 2 door mercs sans B pillars, then you’re smirking whilst ogling at these tasteful shots. Here’s your safe place.

The E Class isn’t just a good looking plus-size model. There are a plentitude of safety and comfort features like the Energizing Coach which, if paired with a Garmin wearable device, assesses stress levels and quality of sleep and creates recommendations that help the driver feel more relaxed during a journey. Don’t roll your eyes...I’m engaging the mindfulness lifestyle these days and so should you. But something tells me that, thanks to COVID, this feature may be putting in extra time.

Moving onto the meaty attributes include 4-MATIC and AMG Ride control ensuring the air suspension system and all-wheel-drive system applies maximum control and power distribution for any scenario.

Top of the range is the AMG E53 4MATIC, sporting a 3.0 litre 6-Cylinder in-line engine with a turbocharger and electric compressor. Power is 320kW and 520Nm delivered through the AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT transmission. 0-100km/h acceleration is achieved in 4.6 seconds and fuel economy is 9.1-8.8l/100km.

Hybrid power - The top of the range E Class morphs into a hybrid by including a 48V onboard electric motor fitted between the engine and transmission boosting an additional 16kW and 250 Nm of torque.

There will also be diesel options available with hybrid power as well. a first for Mercedes.

Despite the change up in the world, Mercedes still proves their ability to make bigger 2-door coupes look sexy. All I know is that I’d like to go slap on my fedora hat, bury my face into a serving from Moro Gelato, put on some Creedance and go for a seaside cruise. Who’s joining?
